Honest Friends

Colossians 4:6 Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

I came across this picture earlier of the feet of some of my friends. In one picture we are standing on a rock, and in the other our feet are submerged in water.  We know that The Rock and The Water have great significance in the bible. The Rock we know is Christ, and The Water is the word, and The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. So both are a picture of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Walking in friendship with fellow believers is such a blessing. I am so thankful for my friends. But that doesn’t ensure we won’t have disagreements with each other.  How much more difficult communication can be with those who don’t understand us and don’t believe as we do.

If you struggle with how to communicate or struggle allowing others to share their feelings, I encourage you to learn to communicate honestly, and listen without fear and embrace the opportunity to create lasting friendships and relationships. Expectations without clear communication can cause distance in relationships. Please do not assume someone thinks something. If you haven’t ask them what they think, you may simply be projecting  feelings on to them that you feel. Often the very thing you fear they may also fear. If you are one who doesn’t value others and their input or opinions, I pray you open your heart and realize people have andbring value to any relationship. They may be just what you need or have the skills or gifts that are lacking in your life.

With honesty, dipped in love and covered with grace we can walk together.  Jesus ask this question, “How can two walk together less they agree?”

I ask, how will we know if we can come to an agreement if there isn’t honest open communication?

I pray our walk with The Lord, and our relationships grow in grace and love for the remainder of this year. As we hit the midway mark for 2018 there is still time to nurture those relationships and friendships.

Ephesians 6:15 and being firm-footed in the gospel of peace.

What if we could talk
maybe calmly disagree,
And you felt safe enough
to share anything with me.

No matter what you were thinking
or holding in your heart,
Wouldn’t you agree
this is a very integral start?

For any lasting relationship
must have some solid ground,
Let’s be real and transparent,
and never dance around.

Saying what we mean
and value deep inside,
We would grow and understand
because we didn’t hide.

Any issues we might face
we would always commit
Never to gossip or slander,
Or murder with our lips.

Picture from phone 019
Communication has a place
to be a part of creating,
And when used effectively
Leaves no one abating.

Choose your words carefully,
always think before you speak.
Words are like bullets,
released in anger, the outcome bleak.

The fears or uncertainties
or unwanted idiosyncrasies,
You could openly help me understand
without any secrecy.

We could openly share what
The Lord has placed in our heart,
What a day, what a friendship
we could genuinely start.

We would never have to fear
or worry needlessly,
because basic relationships
Allows and require honesty.

Then our friendship could endure
any test or attack,
Because truth and open transparency
we pledged would never lack.
